Day one will consist of music writing workshops and workshops on writing about music. In addition to a song-writing and a tune-writing workshop, we will offer workshops on using websites, podcasts, Wikipedia, and/or social media to disseminate research on traditional music and dance.

Days two and three will feature performance studies and film scholar Dr. Anna Birch, who will introduce performance studies methods before facilitating a number of activities designed to help participants learn how to use performance studies in their own research projects. Dr. Birch will also work with three NAFCo scholars – Dr. Gary West (University of Edinburgh), Dr. Chris Goertzen (University of Southern Mississippi) and Dr. Sherry Johnson (York University) – offering feedback on presentations of their research.

Interested participants can register at https://nafcoworkshop2017.eventbrite.ca.

Full-time students can also apply for a limited number of travel subsidies. To be considered, please submit a 250-word explanation of how you will benefit from attending these workshops to NAFCo2017@cbu.ca. Submissions will be accepted no later than August 31, 2017. Due to grant restrictions, we can only offer subsidies to full-time students.

While visiting Cape Breton Island, participants may wish to arrive early for the Cabot Trail Writers Festival, Sep 29-Oct 1 (http://cabottrailwritersfestival.com/) or stay on for the Celtic Colours International Festival, Oct 6-14 (https://celtic-colours.com).

If you have any questions, please contact NAFCo2017@cbu.ca
