SEM currently operates three programs to increase diversity within the Society and the field of ethnomusicology:
The Annual Meeting Subvention Awards offer travel funding and mentoring opportunities for students. For more information, see the application and nomination guidelines.
The Book Subvention Award offers funding to assist a faculty member or postdoctoral fellow in publishing his/her first book. For more information, see the application and nomination guidelines.
The Day of Ethnomusicology is a learning experience at the Annual Meeting for a small group of students from a high school near the meeting site. This event is coordinated by the SEM Education Section.
The SEM Diversity Action Committee includes Deborah Wong (chair), Harris M. Berger, Kevin Fellezs, Victoria Levine, Sarah Morelli (Section on the Status of Women
representative), Sister Marie Agatha Ozah (Crossroads Section
representative), Tes Slominski (Gender and Sexualities Task Force representative),
and Tim Taylor.
