Clara Henderson Award

The Dance, Movement, Gesture Section of the Society for Ethnomusicology invites submissions for the Clara Henderson Award.

Purpose: The Clara Henderson Award recognizes the most distinguished student paper presented at the SEM Annual Meeting that substantially engages the topics of dance, movement, and/or gesture.

Eligibility: Any student who presented a formal paper at the 2017 SEM Annual Meeting. “Students” must be pursuing an active degree program or writing a thesis or dissertation and cannot have completed their MA/PhD at the time of their presentation at the conference.

Prize: A cash prize of $150.

Administration: The award is administered by a committee of five members of the Society for Ethnomusicology’s Dance, Movement, and Gesture Section.

Application Process: A completed application consists of:

- Cover sheet with the name of the author, paper title, and a 3-4 sentence narrative biography.

- The paper as delivered at the 2017 conference of the Society for Ethnomusicology, not to exceed 12 double-spaced pages.

- Should the applicant have media that accompanied the paper, please upload it to an online file hosting service (such as Dropbox or YouTube) and be sure to include the url in the paper.

Deadline: Monday November 13, 2017. The prize will be awarded and announced at the SEM Annual Meeting the following year.
